Jesca Hoop wrote this song about Hurricane Katrina. This is the first time she played it for people in New Orleans. There are times when she is feeling so deeply that she has to stop. The raw emotion is beautiful and one that moves my heart because I too love New Orleans, love the people of New Orleans.
Here are the lyrics:
The night before the night she came
Katrina the hurricane
ohhh was calm
calm for a land untame
that spill the boarders of New Orleans
ohhh was calm
the plow boys play their old favorite
"the city's on parade"
on parade
but deep in the heart of
the ocean
their beds were made
love me now
now is all we have
love me now love is all we have
the rains that came
with the force of a runaway train
ohhh run away
and the waters rose and the levies
the levies broke
ohhh run away
and the cradle broke my beloved
the cradle broke
I must stay
for deep in the heart of our home
my beloved washed away
love me now
now is all we have
love me now
love is all we ever really had
the old church bell
is in the graveyard
the old church bell
ohhh lace and stone
the naked feet
pound the pavement
of namesless streets
ohhh faceless homes
but deep in the heart of
the American
a prayer for New Orleans
love me now
now is all we have
love me now
love is all we ever really had
If you haven't seen the Spike Lee documentary, "If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise," on Hurricane Katrina, it is excellent and I highly recommend it. Here is an interview with Spike Lee five years after this documentary....
I enjoy bringing together music, writings and research about topics that I find interesting. I like to share images of my artwork and write about what inspires me. Telling stories about Coco, my Akita Service Dog is one of my favorite things to do. And now and then, I write about what it is like to go through life with a Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD. These are the breadcrumbs that lead me back to a frame of mind or concept that would otherwise be forgotten.
