Gratitude
There is a thought
a phrase that I have loved
for most of my adult life
Despise not small beginnings.
And I like to add to that,
Because out of the smallest beginnings
the Giant Sequoia grows.
and expected great things
and suffered
disappointment
how readily would I persevere
long enough
to see something wonderful happen?
I don't have expectations of perfection
or achievements
or some grande reward
because I have worked hard
no
which is a good thing because I'm a poet
and an artist...
I just take one step
and do my best
because I appreciate
this day
right now
this chance
right now
to be
and to become
anew
I appreciate all of it
because this day
right now
is precious.
